Frequently Asked Questions
When may I submit my abstract?
Abstracts for the ASMCUE meeting will be accepted between November 1, 2010 and February, 1, 2011.
What is the deadline for abstract submission?
The deadline for submission is 11:59 PM, Eastern Standard Time on February 1, 2011. The deadline will be strictly enforced and no exceptions will be made.
Is there a limit on how long my abstract can be?
Yes, your abstract text is limited to 1850 characters not including spaces.
Should the presenting author be the submitter of the abstract?
Yes. ASMCUE reviewers prefer to communicate directly with the presenting author to ensure all of the information is received by the appropriate person.
Is it true abstracts may be revised after the initial review process?
The ASMCUE abstract review process is unique in that abstracts may be accepted, rejected, or accepted with revision. The revision process is in keeping with the education premise of ASMCUE. Reviewers will offer constructive comments to authors allowing them to make revisions to the abstract. The modified abstract will be reviewed again and a final disposition will be sent to the author.
Can I submit more than one abstract?
Yes. However, each abstract must contain different research. Authors may request the presentations be scheduled at different timeslots within ASMCUE. However, conference planners can not guarantee accepted abstracts will not be scheduled at the same presentation time.
I am a graduate post doctoral student. May I submit an abstract?
Yes. Graduate and postdoctoral students are eligible to submit abstracts that fit the criteria for submission.
May I submit the same abstract that I submitted for a previous ASMCUE?
No. If you are a returning participant you must submit an abstract that contains new research.
If I submitted my abstract to another conference, may I submit the same abstract to ASMCUE?
No, abstracts must be based on results that have not been published or presented in any journal or at any public, scientific, or educational conference, nationally or internationally, before June 2, 2011.
However there is one exception, this deadline does not apply to attendees submitting the same abstract to ASMCUE and the ASM General Meeting Division W poster session. All ASM General Meeting abstracts for Division W are due on/before January 2011. Individuals wanting to take advantage of this "dual submission" policy should know that the arrangement is limited to the 2011 ASM General Meeting. Keep in mind the review processes for the two meetings are completely separate and acceptance to one does not mean automatic acceptance to the other.
May I submit to both ASMCUE and General Meeting?
Yes. Attendees may submit the same abstract to the ASM General Meeting Division W poster session. Keep in mind the review processes for the two meetings are separate and acceptance to one does not mean automatic acceptance to the other.
If my abstract to the ASM General Meeting is accepted, is the abstract automatically accepted for ASMCUE?
No. Authors must review the criteria for each meeting. The submission and review processes for each meeting are different.
May I request to present on a particular day and time?
Only if you have a justified reason (religion, exam or medical) that prevents you from presenting on a particular day or time. If so, you must contact ASMCUE staff (asmcue@asmusa.org) by April 22, 2011.
Is it possible to withdraw my abstract once it has been accepted?
The abstract withdrawal deadline is April 22, 2011.
I am the presenting author on an abstract that was accepted and now I cannot attend the conference. Instead of withdrawing, may a co-author present the abstract in my place?
Yes. Only co-authors listed in the author block of the abstract may substitute for the presenting author. ASMCUE staff must be informed of the substitution prior to the conference (asmcue@asmusa.org).
